BACO – Retriever Mix / 1.5 years / 20kg / M-Neutered
We can accept applications now, but we will not begin review until Wednesday January 27th
Baco is here and is living his best life in Canada. He is an old soul and just loves to be with his people. He is always going to be where the affection is being handed out. In his foster home, he is great with the other dog, and they are like a companionable couple, without a lot of interaction, as he prefers the human contact. He has the best smile with just a bit of an underbite, just making him a bit more wonderful.
We had a concern about his stiff back legs and what it meant for him and his future. So we whisked him off to the vet for a full once-over. The vet did a thorough exam and found while he does walk a bit wonky, he is not in any pain in either back leg, from toe to hip. All joints moved well and seem fine. It is likely he had an injury (pre-rescue) and it healed on it’s own. We have booked full xrays for Tuesday (26th) to check it all out! We don’t expect to find any issues, but at least we have a nice set of xrays to pass along to his future family. During his appointment it was noted that he is missing some enamel on some of his teeth. This is generally caused my an illness with the mother, while he was in utero (often distemper). While the illness is hardest on the mother, the puppies due have effects on their enamel. Suggested maintenance is regular brushing and perhaps a professional cleaning every few years (similar to what is needed for a smaller breed dog, where annual cleaning is recommended). Other than his teeth and his wonky walk, he is in great shape! Thank you to Alexandra P for sponsoring his vetting!
His house manners are amazing. No begging or rude behaviour. And while he is good in the crate, he is ready to graduate as he appears to be fully housebroken. Besides walks, he loves a good nap, hard chew toys and having his chin scratched. His foster mom says he is a charmer! His manners fall short with cats, so his future home will be cat free.
He loves his walks and has great leash manners. He seems to prefer a harness to a collar, but hey, a walk is a walk, so he’ll take what he can get. Over the weekend he did an 8k hike with his foster family and later napped blissfully. He loves being with his humans, so people home most of the time is ideal for Baco!
We will not be approving any applicants until after his next vet visit. To apply to adopt Baco, check out the adoption process and application at www.dibsrescue.com. His adoption fee is $750.
