PIÑA – Shepherd Mix / 2 Years / 20.5 kg / F-Spayed

Pina has just arrived in Canada and she is a little sweetie waiting for her forever family!

While we are still getting to know this gal, so far she is an interesting mix of a little bit shy combined with a little independent and confident! She been enjoying exploring her new foster home….at her pace. Pina has also been having a lot of fun playing with her furry foster sibling. Even though it is mostly her foster friend initiating the play, she is enjoying a good wrestle or run around the yard with her new friend! She is not at all destructive, and does enjoy quiet time in her crate. Early indications are that she is food motivated and foster mom will be taking advantage of this to do some basic training. Her shyness is evident when you go to approach her (this seems to be changing quickly as she adjusts to her new home), but she is all cuddles and affection when she approaches you. Her new family will need to enforce boundaries in a firm manner while being sensitive to her quieter nature.

She hasn’t had a leash walk yet, but we can tell you she sure does love it outside (even cold Canadian winters seem OK), so a fenced in backyard would certainly be on her wishlist. While it is too early to say she is housebroken, so far we haven’t had any accidents, and foster mom has noticed she will not come in the house from the backyard if she hasn’t finished her business yet (thumbs up to a smart girl!). Pina’s wishlist would include a family that is active, a possible doggy sibling to play with and show her the ropes, and the ability to spend some time outdoors. She passed her cat test in Mexico and has been “cat approved” by one of our Canadian feline judges! Early indications are that she would be better in an environment with older children due to her quieter and sensitive nature.

We are reviewing applications for her at www.dibsrescue.com
