The Life of Loki!

Loki joined DIBS on November 9th, 2022 – so he has been with us for a long while! On January 22, 2022, he was rescued from the streets of Tulum. He was found with wounds around his neck and was in desperate need of TLC. His rescuer swooped him off to the shelter, where Dr Maurico got to work on him right away.  Playa Animal Rescue in Playa del Carmen is amazing and they accepted him into their program, no questions asked.

As PAR’s main rescue partner, DIBS was excited to meet him and we arranged transportation in the fall of 2022. Loki had a handful of applications – all very excited to meet him!  Not long after arriving in foster care with Julia and Fraser, Loki had a seizure…then days later, he had another. He was whisked off to the vet after the first one, and we had to see if it was a one off, or something more. We did test after test and the news came back that Loki was epileptic and would need meds for the rest of his life to help him stabilize. As the months went on, the seizures became less frequent, as we worked with the vets to get the best cocktail of meds for Loki.

On the personal side, Loki is a great boy. At six years old he is chill and calm and a wonderful pet. He is housebroken, sleeps well, and is polite at home. He is a lab mix, so expect a bit of food excitement with Loki. With his foster family, he has been through Christmas, New Years, Chinese New Year, Valentines Day, Spring, Easter, Summer, Canada Day and now he is headed into pumpkin spice season with them. He has been to work, to wineries, farmers markets, Starbucks, all the pet stores, Home Depot, breweries and many lunchtime patios – he is living his very best life. (People thought Tulum was nice, but Loki is living the dream in Canada). His foster family loves him dearly and would keep him in a second, but they have 3 dogs of their own, and keeping Loki would mean they can no longer foster other dogs. Loki loves their dogs a lot (especially Dora) so we hope that his future home has a dog pal. He does chase cats so does need to be cat free. (Loki was adopted for a few weeks by previous DIBS adopters, but with a cat conflict in the home, they decided it wasn’t a great fit – the meds they found to be easy peasy!).

For Loki, he needs a consistent schedule, so we think a homebody type would be best for him. He gets his meds daily, at 7am,11am,3pm,11pm – so his peeps need to be home during those times for him. We do take him in to the vet every 6 months for bloodwork to ensure his levels are all good and we tweak the meds if needed. The approx cost for his meds is $5 a day, which is not bad at all! (We would say that it’s less than a Starbucks latte, but Loki has a love of Starbucks too, so it may not be an either/or with Loki in your life)

We are still seeking the perfect family for this very very good boy!  Please share the story of Loki so that this guy gets the home that he desperately deserves.
