We'd love to see our newly adopted dogs start their heartworm prevention right away. Is that something that you support? The minimum amount of time a newly adopted dog needs to be on preventative is 6 months, regardless of season. Do you support this approach?

We bring dogs from the Mayan Riviera and from Puebla. Puebla is in a very high elevation and they do not have mosquitoes. However, dogs from the Mayan Rivera could contract. All of our dogs are tested prior to travel, but due to the 6 month gestation period, we ask that dogs exposed to mosquitoes start treatment upon their arrival in Canada. We can provide the test to adopters, who can share it with you.
